Drinkability: I find this beer to be a sort-of introductory porter… it has the roasted flavor of a classic porter, but is not quite as bitter or full-flavored.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Pours a deep brown, nearly black with a creamy tan head

Aroma: Smells much like Yuengling Lager, but with a touch of roast

Mouthfeel: Medium body with creamy carbonation

Taste: This porter starts with a cereal sweetness (think Wheaties) and buttery peanut brittle.  The middle has lightly roasted notes with a hint of char on finish.  A very mild flavor overall compared to the other porters I have been trying so far.

Pairing: Pepperoni pizza – really!  Light enough to enjoy with pizza, but enough roast to contrast the spicy bite of the pepperoni.

Trivia: Unlike traditional British Porters (or even most American Porters), Yuengling brews their porter using their lager yeast.  This leads to a cleaner taste, but a less complex flavor: an approachable, unique take on the style.
